How to Maintain a Computer Keyboard?
I have been an everyday user of computer keyboards for one and a half decades. One of my concerns about keyboards, when I was a beginner, was how to clean or maintain my keyboard. More specifically, I was frustrated due to the everyday dust and dirt particles that assembled on my keyboard every other day (almost daily). These particles form clutter between the keyboard keys too.
Moreover, dust and dirt can quickly build up and it can cause keys to stick and malfunction. And that’s where the real struggle begins. So, there are many other things that cause low maintenance in keyboards. The real question is how do you keep your keyboard clean and running smoothly? This is very important as our whole computer system runs on this input device. I have learned a few tips and tricks to keep my keyboard neat and clean.
So…let’s follow the footprints of this guide to learn how to maintain and clean your favorite MonsGeek keyboard properly.
Give Your Keyboard a Deep Clean:
It’s time to give your trusty desktop keyboard a thorough cleaning with the most popular and widely used method, especially for customizable keyboards. First of all, you can start by unplugging your keyboard. Then, you need to remove the keycaps if possible.
You can utilize a keycap puller here as it comes in handy here. Next, dip a cotton swab in pure isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe down the exposed surface. Meanwhile, you need to soak the removable keycaps in warm soapy water for 30 minutes. Lastly, simply rinse and dry them thoroughly before reattaching. That’s how your keyboard will thank you after a deep cleansing method.
Try the Simple Shake Out Method:
So you want to clean your keyboard, but you don’t want to spend a lot of time doing it. Well, here is a quick and easy solution for you where you are not required to do much to cleanse your Monsgeek mechanical keyboards. First, turn off your computer system and unplug your keyboard. Or, completely shut down your laptop if it’s a built-in keyboard.
Next, just hold it upside down over a trash can/box and give it a gentle tap and shake. This method will definitely loosen up any dust, dirt, or crumbs that might be hiding between the keyboard keys. However, don’t shake it too hard as it may break a few things inside it or the keys may unclog too.
Keep Your Keys Clean with a Microfiber Cloth:
Regular cleaning is key to keeping your keyboard looking and feeling its best. A good microfiber cloth is your best friend here. Simply dampen the cloth slightly with water, and gently wipe down the surface of the keys and the spaces between those keys. However, make sure to clean in a circular motion while paying special attention to any areas with visible stains or buildup. Moreover, you can use a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol for any tough spots.
This will help break down any stubborn grime or stains. Just be sure to test a small area first to make sure the alcohol doesn’t damage the keyboard’s finish. Also, be careful not to push too hard, as you don’t want to damage any of the keys or switches underneath. In this way, you can keep your keyboard clean just by incorporating regular microfiber cleanings into your routine. Plus, it’s a great way to prevent the buildup of oils and grime that can eventually lead to sticky keys and other problems.
Get the Gunk Out with a Keyboard Cleaning Gel:
A cleaning gel can be a real lifesaver when it comes to cleaning those hard-to-reach areas on your favorite Monsgeek M1 V5 keyboard. These gels are also known as cleaning slime. They are specifically designed to pick up dust and debris from tight spaces between the keys. But, many users don’t know how to use it properly. Let me share how you can use it.
To use one, simply knead the gel to warm it up and make it more pliable. Then, press it gently onto the keyboard surface and between keys. This process will make sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. Lift the gel slowly, and watch as it picks up dirt and dust with ease. You need to repeat the process as needed. And…be sure to discard the gel when it becomes dirty. Otherwise, your keyboard will get more dirty if you don’t discard it and keep using the same dirty slime.
Wrapping – Up!
So…these are my easy and most favorite methods of cleaning a keyboard. There are many other techniques too that can help you maintain your keyboard. For example, you can use a brush to help clean the dust that forms easily every other week on your keyboard and between your keyboard keys.
